Besides the beach and the Simliduinen, there are other special sights in the town of Nieuwpoort that are definitely worth visiting. One of these attractions is the King Albert I monument, which is not only a tribute to the king himself, but also a memorial to the First World War. It is very impressive monument from where you have a great view over the IJzer estuary and the North Sea.

There is also the historic Ganzepoot, an ingenious lock complex that played a crucial role in the defence during World War I by flooding large parts of the country. Today, in addition to its historical significance, the Ganzepoot offers a unique perspective on water management and nature conservation.

The Sint-Bernarduskerk in Nieuwpoort is also worth a visit. This is the only church along the Belgian coast that faces the sea, which makes it very special. The current church dates from 1923, after the first one was destroyed in the First World War.
